Like all great American books, Television Hates Itself began as an art installation. The 56 reasons television hates itself were projected as a powerpoint presentation onto obsolete teleprompters that were hung by chains on the wall in a darkened hallway outside Big Car Gallery in Indianapolis.

At the opening reception for the installation, thirteen handmade copies of a Television Hates Itself book were offered for sale. Three sold. The rest were given away to random people.

Later that year the piece resurfaced on a tiny television hanging from the ceiling in the corner of JinJonJim's living room in Bloomington, Indiana, at an art barbecue called KookOut. Then the Icelandic band Sigur Ros gave the author permission to use one of their songs in a YouTube presentation of the work (as long as it wasn't a commercial venture). So far that video has received 248 views. It can be viewed here.

Caprice Books now proudly presents an incarnation of the project that will fit in your back pocket, lovingly complemented by artwork from Mike Morelli.

To satisfy Phillip Barcio's promise to Sigur Ros that Television hates Itself is not a commercial venture, Caprice Books promises that all profit from the sale of this book will go to the author's favorite charity, meaning it will be given to homeless people.

Caprice Books is a small publisher of pocket books. We are not a subsidiary of anything. Nothing is a subsidiary of us. We barely exist except for this blog and an email address that rarely gets checked. All that matters is the books. Buy the books. Read the books. Love the books.
